Danedream digs deep to win in Germany Danedream had to dig deep to regain her crown in the Longines - Grosser Preis Von Baden at Baden-Baden in Germany on Sunday. There were concerns that the combination of a little cut in the ground and a potentially slow pace in an eight runner tactical contest would count against last year's winner of the Group One mile and a half contest. Andrasch Starke had the four year old filly in a prominent position, just off the pace being set by Next Vision who was acting as a pacemaker for German Derby runner-up Novellist. The latter was partnered for the first time by William Buick but the young jockey, who is enjoying a stellar position, never managed to get his mount into a challenging position having held him up in rear and the three year old could only stay on at the one pace to finish fourth. Starke, in contrast, had every angle covered aboard Danedream and made a positive move at the top of the straight to ensure that he could grab the stands' side rail. Last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine had to work quite hard to hold off the determined challenges of Ovambo Queen and German Derby winner Pastorius. However despite that, Peter Schiergen's star appeared to win with something to spare in a race that wasn't run to suit and is now expected to straight head to Longchamp in her attempt to defend her title in October's showpiece event. Patrick Barbe, racing manager for part-owner Teruya Yoshida, was at Baden-Baden to witness the performance first hand and was thrilled. He said: "We are very happy. The instructions were to not give the filly a hard race and Andrasch only gave her one crack of the whip to keep her straight. "Although she has not won by a very big margin, she has won very easily and we look forward to Longchamp again." Sky Bet left July's King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner unchanged at 5-1 for the Arc.
