Dar Re Mi lands Sheema Classic for Gosden

John Gosden and William Buick's partnership got off to a dream start as Dar Re Mi landed the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan.

Buick was only recently named the new stable jockey to Gosden and this was the youngster's first ride in Group One company for his new boss.

The 9-1 chance had been off the track since finishing third in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita in November, but was always travelling powerfully and loomed up to challenge at the top of the straight.

Dar Re Mi showed a fantastic turn of foot to quicken to the lead and held off the challenges of Buena Vista and Spanish Moon.

Buick said: "It's a great start to the season. "She's done it so well, she's given me much such a good ride, she's so straightforward.

"It's a very good race, there were lots of good horses in there.

"There were no anxious moments, she gave me so much confidence the whole way round, the only worry was stall 14 but she overcame that well.

"It's amazing, I can't really believe it,"

Gosden said: "This is right up there with winning the Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita or the Derby.

"To be here on the opening night, the quality of the field, the second and third from the Breeders' Cup Turf, the second and third from the Arc - it's a fabulous race and it's great to be here.

"She's come out of a very cold winter so it's remarkable the filly has come to her best so quickly.

"It was a great ride by the jockey, I told him not to be in a hurry as it is a long straight.

"He's a chilly young lad, he knows what he's doing and he's got a lot of brains."
