Darkened lands apprentice handicap under stylish O'Sullivan Young Darragh O'Sullivan showed once again why he is regarded as one of the most promising up and coming riders around when guiding the veteran Darkened to a comfortable win in the DundalkStadium.com Apprentice Handicap. A six-time winner under both codes prior to tonight, the 6/1 chance travelled nicely throughout the race. Arriving on the bridle over a furlong out, O'Sullivan headed long time leader Signor Ferrari before moving on. Staying on strongly inside the last 200 yards, the Noel Kelly trained nine-year-old recorded an easy four-and-a-quarter length success. It was a 10th career win under rules for Cork born jockey O'Sullivan. Noel Kelly said: "He ran very well the last day. "That is my 100th winner on the track across Ireland and Britain, not including point-to-points. "A fair achievement, I always say I'm only a part-time trainer! It is nice to get that achievement. "We flew out to Cheltenham this morning and bought a couple of horses, nicer horses that we didn't have the money to spend on before. I have a few local boys backing me up with a few pound. "The dearest horse I ever bought before was 26 grand. We beat it by a good bit today! We paid 80 odd grand for a horse today. "We are racing in Class 5 and Class 6 all along, and we are getting winners. It would be nice to go for a nice 'Saturday' horse to try and get a name for yourself."
