Lexington Dash is set to take his chance in the Irish Cambridgeshire at the Curragh on Saturday, with his trainer John McConnell more hopeful than confident.

A three-time winner in the UK when trained by Richard Hannon, the son of Scorpion was successful on just his second start for McConnell at Fairyhouse in July.

He since failed to make an impact on his next two outings and now heads to headquarters for this valuable contest over a mile.

.

"Seven (furlongs) is probably his trip but I think the way he runs now, a mile shouldn't be a problem," McConnell said.

"We tinkered with his wind when we got him, so he is probably getting home a bit better.

"With those horses rated that high, where do you go with them anyway? He'll run okay but with the draw and everything we don't know how we are going to fare, but we are going to have a crack at it.

"He'll probably go for the Sovereign Path over seven on Champions Weekend."
