De Bromhead completes across-the-card double Henry De Bromhead completed an across-the-card Flat-jumps double today, with the Royal Ascot-winning trainer present at Cork for Wild Bessie’s (28/1) success in the Mallow Garden Festival 22nd, 23rd & 24th May Fillies Maiden. Ridden by Ronan Whelan, once-raced Wild Bessie raced with the pace throughout today’s seven-furlongs race and while strongly pressed by Signora a furlong out, ran on well to score by three-parts of a length. Wild Bessie carries the colours of De Bromhead’s Champion Chase-winner Special Tiara and he reported “I’m delighted for Sally (Rowley-Williams), as she is a homebred and her half-brother Bodhi Bear won recently at the Curragh, and is also a really nice horse. Sally has a good breeding operation. “Ronan was really happy with her and gave her a super ride. On her debut at Dundalk last September, he brought her ‘back’ to educate her and she ran on well that day but felt he would use her big stride today. “She should improve physically and mentally and was still green.” Regarding his earlier Fairyhouse maiden hurdle-winner Midnight Jet, he added “it is great for his owner Tony Head and Darragh (O'Keeffe) gave him a great ride. He had been a bit disappointing but we felt we had him back where we wanted him and he toughed it out well.”
