Denman ahead of schedule

Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Denman is likely to have two runs ahead of defending his crown in March as part-owner Harry Findlay reports the gelding to be recovering well from a heart scare earlier this season.

The Aon Chase at Newbury was thought to be Denman's likely reappearance race but, with the eight-year-old ahead of schedule having been diagnosed with a fibrillating heart, the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock next month is now firmly in the equation.

'The general impression I've been getting for the last couple of weeks is he's going to want something before the Aon,' Findlay confirmed.

'The handicap in the Peter Marsh seems to suit Denman and it could be an easy race for him. At the moment that's the plan. He won't run without being ready to do himself justice.'
