Direction scores in Catterick for Roberts The Reginald Roberts trained General Direction shed his maiden tag at Catterick this afternoon in the catterickbridge.co.uk Median Auction Maiden Stakes over five furlongs. The 2yo son of Lawman had two efforts to his name before today, finishing ninth on his debut at Down Royal when the subject of a major gamble. He was backed from his morning price of 16/1 that day into an opening show of 7/2 on course before going off the clear 3/1 favourite. However he let down supporters and trailed home a poor ninth of ten. He put in a much improved display on his second start at Naas when finishing a decent second to Frances Of Assisi at 20/1. That Naas contest was over six furlongs and dropped back to five this afternoon he lead in the early stages then disputed the lead before hitting the front again three furlongs out. He was sent on from there by Paul Mulrennan and kept on best to score by a length and a half at the line from the Richard Fahey trained Brooke's Bounty in second at 3/1. The front pair went seven lengths clear of the third who was Marcus Caesar at 5/2. General Direction was best priced 2/1 this morning but opened on track at 11/8 before going off the 7/4 favourite.
