Ger Lyons celebrated his first Ayr winner as a trainer when Kinch broke his maiden in the toteexacta Handicap.

Unsuccessful in eight runs in Ireland, Kinch was dropping in trip and class in Scotland.

Under pressure some way out from Donagh O’Connor, the 9-1 shot got rolling late and beat Kodicat by a short head.

“He jumped and travelled well enough,” O’Connor told Racing TV.

“I wasn’t too concerned about my position early on, because they’d gone hard enough.

“My lad started to pass one or two when they began to tire, and his confidence started to get going. He did it well in the end.

“I think the trip and down in grade helped, coming overseas. He’s been a bit frustrating at home, but hopefully that will get his confidence up.”

O’Connor then doubled up in the same David Spratt silks when Nigg Bay (11-2) was another to get up close home in the totequadpot Handicap for Johnny Levins.

There was a third Irish winner on the card when Lever Du Soleil triumphed in the 4.30 for Gavin Cromwell. Clifford Lee rode the victor, a 4/6 shot.
