Donegal set for hurdles debut at Leopardstown

Smart Flat performer Donegal could make his hurdling debut at Leopardstown over Christmas for new trainer Robbie Hennessy.

A Listed winner on the level for Andrew Balding and beaten only a head by subsequent St Leger and Breeders' Cup hero Conduit at Goodwood, the three-year-old was snapped up by current connections for #200,000 at the Tattersalls Sales back in October.

Hennessy is happy with what he has seen from the gelding so far and is looking forward to getting him onto the racecourse.

"All being well he will run at Leopardstown in a three-year-old hurdle, I believe it is a winners of one race," said Hennessy.

"I sent him down to Con Power a couple of weeks ago as he is very good at getting horses jumping and it has all being going well so far.

"We'll get stuck into him now in the next couple of weeks and see how we go but Leopardstown is definitely the plan."

Donegal is a general 25-1 chance for the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham in March.
