Smooth-travelling Hatfield Hammer (4/1) gave Paul Nolan and Jordan Gainford a victory in Division 2 of the Fleadh Cheoil Wexford August Handicap Hurdle.

He made stealthy headway between three out and two out where he challenged Telnobody (7/1). The challenger soon led and asserted well in the closing stages to put three and three-quarter lengths on the runner-up. Only A Dollar was the same distance away in third at 16s.

This was Hatfield Hammer's breakthrough success after being placed on his previous three outings.

Owner/trainer Nolan said: "He had been running well and had a bit of a break. It's great to get a winner and I thought he wanted further. Jordan gave him a lovely ride, he dropped him out and took his time early on.

"He jumped well bar one and jumped the second last and the last great, so it's happy days and great to get a few pound in my account!"
