Doubles for O'Brien and McMonagle as Sindria wins McCalmont Memorial Stakes Having been amongst the winners already on the evening, Joseph O'Brien and Dylan Browne McMonagle doubled up as Sindria stayed on best to land the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes at Gowran Park. Tracking the leaders in the early stages, the Sights On Gold Three Partnership owned 7/2 chance went in pursuit of Faiyum early in the straight. Getting to the front over a furlong out, Sindria stayed on strongly to post a two-and-a-quarter length win over stablemate Lemsairbat, with Subsonic back in third. “We’re very happy with both fillies and that was another step forward from Sindria,” said O’Brien. “She’s a good looking stakes winning filly. I thought Dylan gave her a good ride and she relaxed well. “We were happy with her at the end of last season and then she stepped up well here the last time. She stepped up again today. “I think there is a group race for her here later in the year and it would make sense to come back here. “It would be an option and she’ll be in all those races now. “I’d say you’ll see her mostly in group company now because being a Listed winner it doesn’t add a huge amount to her to win another one.” On Lemsairbat, he added: “She’s a remarkably consistent filly and she’s never run a bad race really. It’s more black-type for her. “I feel sorry for Harry and Hamish (McCalmont) finishing second in their own race but still they were delighted with the run.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
