Duelling Duo Remain All-Square

Jamie Spencer and Seb Sanders remain level on 185 winners apiece in the race to become champion jockey following an appeal heard by the British Horseracing Authority.

Sanders passed the post first aboard the Peter Makin-trained Classic Descent in Newmarket's Prestige Vehicles EBF Maiden last Friday.

However, the pair were subsequently demoted to second behind the Spencer-ridden Black Rain following an inquiry held by the stewards, who deemed Sanders to have caused interference and to have improved his placing as a result.

Connections of Classic Descent were not in agreement and elected to appeal, with the hearing hastily scheduled for 7am on Thursday morning with the title to be decided on Saturday.

However, the BHA panel dismissed the appeal, drawing the same conclusions made by the Newmarket stewards.

The result leaves both riders locked in unison with three days left to improve their respective seasonal hauls.

Sanders said: 'It would have been a two-winner swing and we came down here hopeful but it was a 50-50 chance really.

'I'll just have to dust myself off, put my head down, and get on with the job.'
