Duffys Hodey made it third time lucky over fences when staying on powerfully late on to win the novice handicap chase at Limerick. Mickie Angel and One And Only fought it out from the second-last in the two-mile-six contest but the pair were trumped by Philip Rothwell’s charge on the run-in.

Shane O’Callaghan got a great tune out of the Well Chosen gelding as he asserted late on for a four-and-a-quarter length success.

The 11/4 winner had chased home Hitthehayson on his return to action at Fairyhouse last month and Rothwell said:-

“He jumped much better today. I said to Shane to keep him out wide because with the four fences up the back here, if you can get into a rhythm it gives you a good chance. He jumped super.

“He jumped a bit high the last day in Fairyhouse, with his tail up in the air. It was lack of experience, I guess, and he was much more professional today.

“He’s entered in Tramore and we’ll see what happens.

“He’s a great fun horse. It’s a magic syndicate, it’s our own syndicate and includes some of my best friends. They’ve been very lucky.

“The lads are great and hugely supportive. It’s lovely to get a Christmas winner for them.”
