Dermot McLoughlin's Freewheelin Dylan could attempt a Grand National double this year.

He caused a massive 150/1 surprise in last year's Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse and McLoughlin is considering preparing the nine-year-old gelding for the Aintree version.

He said: “He might run in a hurdle race but it all depends on the ground. We had him in to run a few weeks ago on nice ground but obviously that’s all after changing now.

“I’m not sure what to do now and we might just let him off for three or four weeks and train him for the English National.

“It will all depend on the ground but he’s a clear-winded horse and doesn’t need to run.

“We’re leaning towards the English National rather than the Irish. He should get into it on a nice handy weight.”

Since landing the €400,000 showpiece, Freewheelin Dylan has finished fourth in a handicap chase at Punchestown, sixth in the Midlands National at Kilbeggan, and unseated in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase at Cheltenham in November.
