Prairie Echoes (20/1 — 14s) scored on her handicap debut today, as the Kieran Cotter-trained filly landed Sligo’s John Gilligan Memorial Nursery under jockey Gary Carroll for the Matilda Picotte Syndicate.

Unplaced in three previous summer maiden runs, the daughter of Sioux Nation today raced prominently throughout and having been pressed inside the final furlong, held on well to score by three-parts of a length from Glamazon

Today’s race was the third Irish Nursery of the year and afterwards Cotter commented “Prairie Echoes worked very well and we knew she was up to winning a nursery but a horse disappointed badly in the Ballyhane that had been working with her so that knocked confidence.

“She’s a sharp filly who handles this type of track well and liked the little bit of dig in the ground. Gary gave her a great ride.

“The lads that were involved with Matilda Picotte (English 1,000 Guineas-third of 2023) own her, and she was also by Sioux Nation.”
