Gordon Elliott is hoping El Cairos can bounce back to winning ways in the opening Gowran Park Hurdle at the Kilkenny venue this afternoon.

The £410,000 purchase was beaten favourite in the Galway Hurdle on his last outing and Elliott admits he has proven a touch disappointing.

He lines up in the two-mile Listed contest today and was installed as the early favourite to add to his maiden hurdle win at Thurles back in January.

“He's in good form. He's bang on with Willie's horse (Gaucher) on ratings,” said the Cullentra handler at Gowran on Friday.

“He's been a bit disappointing so we're hoping he'll put his foot forward tomorrow.”

The chestnut missed the second last in the Galway Hurdle before finishing seventh and he added:-

“To be fair, I don't think he would have won it but he might have been second or third. He wasn't beaten that far.”

He is joined in the six-runner affair by stablemate Samui and Elliott said of him:-

“He is hard to place so we might as well let him take his chance to pick up a bit of prize-money.”
