Trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Sam Ewing combined for Navan doubles today, as Sermandzarak (1/2f) comfortably landed the Navan Maiden Hurdle for owners Robcour.

A dual winner last term, Sermandzarak landed the €100,000 Goffs Defender Bumper last April and today scored on his fourth maiden-hurdle start, quickening up well to beat Bossofthebrownies by 4.5 lengths.

Elliott, earlier successful with the Ewing-partnered Swing Davis said “Sermandzarak galloped out well there: he has a good attitude. I'd say going up in trip definitely suited him, he's tough and he stays galloping.

"He is a real stayer by the way he ran there, he stays very well."
