Gordon Elliott and Danny Gilligan bagged a quick double at Kilbeggan this afternoon as Combs ran out a cosy winner of the second division of the Racing TV Maiden Hurdle.

The 116-rated performer was prominent throughout, on a strong pace, and led after the second last in the two-miler.

Gilligan asked the Dark Angel gelding for an effort going to the final flight and the 2/1 favourite was always holding Goeasyonme late on to record a length-and-a-half success.

Combs, a winner on the Flat last year, was opening his hurdling account at the eighth attempt.

"On ratings it was his race to lose,” said Elliott.

“He's been disappointing but everything went right today. He jumped well and did things right.

“He should go back into handicaps after that. He could be one for something like the Lartigue Hurdle (at Listowel)."
