Elliott wins Wexford's opener with Speculatrix Trainer Gordon Elliott followed up Wodhooh’s final-day Cheltenham festival success with an opening race maiden hurdle win at Wexford today, as Speculatrix (11/4) gained a deserved success, under jockey Jordan Gainford. The luckless Gigginstown House Stud-owned six-year-old mare had previously suffered unfortunate final-flight falls at both Killarney and Navan but today scored readily from Magic Day. Jockey Gainford, who has three unplaced Cheltenham rides, was following up a double at Limerick last week and today Elliott’s assistant Ian 'Busty' Amond said “Speculatrix was unlucky a couple of days where she had races won and ended up on the ground. She jumped well today and has just been unlucky. “I don't think the ground matters to her and she was entitled to win today on some of her previous runs. She'll be kept on the go and it's grand to get a win with her after the few mishaps she's had." Quotes from Donal Murphy
