Elusive Ogie gets up late to win Bellewstown feature for McCarthy The Eoin McCarthy trained Elusive Ogie got up close home under Daniel King to win the featured Bective Stud, Hotel & Tea Rooms Mullacurry Cup Handicap Hurdle at Bellewstown. Sent off 8/1, the Denis Enright owned gelding sat mid division for much of the contest before moving through to track the leaders after three out. Pushed along after the penultimate flight, the son of Elusive Pimpernel looked booked for a place at best when jumping the last in fifth. However, he really knuckled down on the run-in, staying on strongly inside the last 100 yards to get up close home for a length win. Eoin McCarthy said: "He's had a frustrating season - he looked like he was going to win in Killarney in May and unseated. He looked like he was going to go well in Killarney and made a hames of the same hurdle (July) again. "Delighted for the owner that he's after getting a little bit back out of the season. Denis (Enright) has been very patient, he's a lovely man to train for and I'm delighted that he's won for him. "He's (King) just so cool. It was never happening and he was never panicking - delighted for Dan, he gave him a peach of a ride. "He'll definitely go to Listowel, I'd imagine. He has options - there's two and a half miles, and three miles. I think Galway (over an extended three-miles) the ground turned up too soft on the day." (Quotes by Michael Graham).
