Elvstroem Swerves Rakti Rematch

Connections of Elvstroem have decided to bypass another clash with Rakti at Royal Ascot at York and the Australian star will now run in the Prince Of Wales´s Stakes next Wednesday.

The Tony Vasil-trained five-year-old was fourth in the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes, which was won in such breathtaking fashion by Rakti, at Newbury last month.

He then finished second to Valixir in the Prix d´Ispahan at Longchamp.

Elvstroem is entered in both the Queen Anne Stakes over a mile and the 10-furlong Prince Of Wales´s Stakes at next week´s meeting.

Vasil said yesterday: 'We had him nominated for both races. I feel obliged to dodge Rakti after running against him at Newbury, although I do think the horse is more effective at 10 furlongs - that´s more his cup of tea.

'I can see he will have to be right at the top of his game to be competitive in what looks like his toughest race in Europe.'
