Energumene rolls back the years at Fairyhouse The Willie Mullins-trained Energumene rolled back the years with a dominant display in the Underwriting Exhange Chase at Fairyhouse this afternoon. The dual Champion Chaser had been well beaten at the Dublin Racing Festival on his last outing in early February but bounced back to form today in the Grade 2 contest. Paul Townend’s mount travelled smoothly to hit the front going to the second last in the race, over just shy of two-and-a-half miles. The 9/4 shot soon asserted, going on to post a six-length victory over stablemate Blood Destiny. “I don’t know what he’s on at 12 years of age but I’m going to get some of it!” said Mullins. “I couldn’t believe how well he was going. You could see Paul just absolutely tanking and the further he was going the better he was liking it. “I’m just amazed that he could put in such a performance today. I’m delighted with Blood Destiny too and very sorry for Saint Sam (fell two out) and connections. “Energumene stole the show. At 12 years of age to put in a performance like that. He ran like a seven or eight-year-old. Paul picked right.” On the 12-year-old’s future he added:- “I think he’ll have an entry in Punchestown and then we’ll review the situation and see what Tony Bloom wants to do. We’ll leave it up to them.”
