English King impresses in Derby Trial

Ed Walker's English King produced a stylish display to land the Betsafe Derby Trial Stakes at Lingfield this afternoon.

The French bred son of Camelot was held up off the pace in the one mile three and half furlongs contest before making a move on the outer of runners in the home straight. Hitting the front with over a furlong to race his rider Tom Marquand only needed to push the colt out with hands and heels for a very easy victory.

Tom Marquand said: “Coming here today, there is always a question mark down that hill and he still clearly has signs of immaturity, so to have won that impressively and gone away in the style he did, we are all pretty excited about him.

“He is one to look forward to for the future, not just for Epsom.”

The winner is now being quoted as co-favourite at 6/1 for the Investec Derby on July 4 at Espom.
