Ephesus justified his short price with an easy success in the opening four-year-old maiden hurdle at Limerick this afternoon.

The Denis Hogan-trained gelding went to post a 4/5 shot in the two-miler having been placed three times previously over hurdles.

Having disputed early the Galileo gelding tracked Cholo after a couple of flights.

The hotpot jumped to the front at the middle flight in the back straight and had rival Raydamann off the bridle going to the second last.

Ephesus got in a bit tight over the last two but only had to be shaken up briefly by Dan King on the run-in to secure a seven-and-a-half length success.

"He had a few nice runs and had been placed so it was a nice opportunity today and he did it well,” said King afterwards.

"He was having a look around even when he was behind another horse but he jumped, travelled away well and picked up well in the straight.

“He could do with sharpening up his jumping but hopefully there is plenty more to come."
