Ultimately well beaten when fifth on his Haydock debut a month ago, Charlie Johnston’s charge was a 14-1 shot for his next assignment in what looked a strong contest on the Sussex Downs. The Too Darn Hot colt clearly learnt plenty from that initial effort as he was travelling best of all entering the final furlong before being run down by Aidan O’Brien’s odds-on favourite Isaac Newton. It will be a surprise if Evanesco does not make it third time lucky in maiden company next time.
