Fable fights to secure narrow success as Coen doubles up Grey Fable was game in the closing stages when sticking his head out to gain a narrow victory in a driving finish to the mile-and-a-half handicap at Dundalk. Karl Thornton’s charge was keen in the early stages but was soon settled in behind the leaders by Ben Coen. He grabbed a narrow advantage passing the two pole but was joined a furlong out by Chopsticks. Having just saw off that rival close home the 22/1 shot then had to hold the late charge of 6/5 favourite Copper Craft to secure a neck victory. The winning trainer was leading up and Coen said: "He's very light-mouthed. The last day I think the ground just went on him, he wasn't able to handle it. "Karl was happy with him coming here today. He said he stays this trip very well around here. He was good and tough. "They usually like to pull it up when they get down the back, so I was keen to keep going. To be fair, he dug it out well. "I'd say that's minimum trip here, definitely on the all-weather. He'd probably stay two miles." It was a quick double for Ben Coen, as he had landed the preceding maiden on Believed.
