Pat Fahy is hoping Castlegrace Paddy can give his Leighlinbridge yard a special win at Gowran Park this weekend.

The triple Grade 2 winner in on course for the Red Mills Chase at the Kilkenny venue on Saturday.

Fahy's charge started this season on a high when taking the Grade 2 Fortria Chase at Navan in November.

He subsequently found Grade 1 company a bit hotter in the Tingle Creek at Sandown and behind Chacun Pour Soi at Leopardstown over Christmas.

“He's in great form and we'll definitely go for the Red Mills Chase,” said Fahy.

“He's doing his normal work at home as he was up the Curragh last week and has everything done.

“He has won three Grade 2 chases. He's still sound and probably better than he ever was mobility wise. He's a happy horse.”

The bumper on Saturday's card is named in honour of jockey Ronan Lawlor, who was tragically killed on Fahy's gallops 11 years ago and the trainer added:-

“I always like to have a runner on what we call 'Ronan's Day'. Only for Covid a lot of my owners from Galway come down for the day. We make a big day of it.

“To have a runner in the Red Mills this year will be great and if we won it would be mega altogether.

“I've won it before (with Nuaffe in 1997) but I think the Red Mills Chase has gotten more prestigious since. I'd like to win it with Castlegrace Paddy, who is locally bred.

“I bought the dam off Joe Foley and there is a lot of history there. The owners only live over in Castlegrace, about 15 minutes away.

“Steve Parkin of Clipper Logistics has been very good to me and has sent me some good horses, Grade 1 and Grade 2 horses. I couldn't be more thankful to him.”
