You Make Me Smile (15/2) followed up a Clonmel hurdle win last month with a Sligo success today, as the Pat Fahy-trained mare landed the Tote.ie Apprentice Handicap under jockey Keithen Kennedy.

The seven-year-old mare took advantage of a recent lowering of the official basement hurdle ratings when scoring at Clonmel and, today, repeated that same feat on the Flat, scoring from a rating of 40, which is 5lb below last year’s basement mark.

Following today’s 1.25 lengths win over Makaiah trainer Fahy said “it’s great that she’s won here today as the lads (Trevor and Ryan Hennessy) only live down the road. I told the lads she’d win in Sligo and in Galway as well!

“She stayed well and will handle soft ground as well.”
