Falls follows-up on handicap debut The progressive Falls Of Acharn followed-up on his breakthrough win at Leopardstown, as he led home 13 rivals in the Port Of Cork Handicap. Off an initial mark of 74, the Jessica Harrington-trained three-year-old was sent off a 6/1 chance this afternoon and soon raced behind the leaders under Shane Foley, who carried a pound overweight. Taking closer order from early in the straight, the Sea The Moon gelding was pushed along to challenge with over two-furlongs to go and soon improved into a share of the lead. Ridden to the front just inside the furlong pole, he quickly extended his advantage and came home a length-and-three-quarters to the good in the colours of Kate Harrington. The Joseph O'Brien-trained Mathan came through to take second under Dylan Browne McMonagle, while Punchestown winner Sun Soldier (6/1) was a neck away in third. Returned the 11/4 favourite (drifted from early shows of 7/4), Sujet never got involved and beat just one rival home. "He is a nice horse who Kate has been trying to get sold for a while, but I've been anxious to keep him," Foley remarked. "He had quite an attractive mark and when I saw he had 8st 8lb, I told Kate he'd be alright with 1lb over! "He was keen early so I had to take him out of it a bit but got him to relax. He tends to rush things but I think he is a nice horse and has done it well. He probably wants to go 1m 2f and is learning. "He could end up being a nice handicapper and will be a nice horse to have." STEWARDS REPORTS * The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Sujet (GB), trained by D. K. Weld, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to have given a few coughs on examination. Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes
