Famous Five For Ouija

Ouija Board took her Group One tally to five when putting her male rivals to the sword in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Punters decided to side against the Ed Dunlop-trained five-year-old as she dropped back to a mile and a quarter, and the 2004 Oaks heroine eventually went off at 8-1.

But those who took the rewarding odds roared her home as Olivier Peslier switched her out wide entering the final furlong and a half and the Lord Derby-owned mare quickened in devastating fashion to beat Electrocutionist (9-4).

Frankie Dettori set a modest pace aboard the latter and tried to stretch his rivals on the turn for home, a move which many thought would catch out Ouija Board.

But her lightning turn of foot proved too much and she scooted past the post with half a length to spare over Godolphin's Dubai World Cup winner, with Manduro third and 11-8 favourite David Junior fourth.

Dunlop said: 'Olivier gave her a great ride and I always knew she could quicken. She can quicken against the best and she's proved that.

'This was probably the best run of her life.

'Winning a first Classic with her was important to me but coming to a big, high-profile meeting like this and winning one of the biggest races of the meeting is very rewarding.

'She is not in the King George but there is the possibility of supplementing her, if not she will have a holiday and then go back to America for the Breeders' Cup.'

A jubilant Lord Derby added: 'This girl tries hard every time and sometimes there are things against her or another great horse but she was awesome.

'We dropped her back to a mile and a quarter to take on some of the best in the world and for her to do this is unbelievable.

'For an owner to have a winner at Royal Ascot is an amazing feeling but to win the big one when this fantastic new stand has just been opened is unbelievable.'

Electrocutionist may have failed to follow up his Dubai success but he did prove the Godolphin camp are beginning to hit form, and Dettori said: 'He ran great. We tried to stretch their stamina and he had everything beat, bar the good mare.

'It was a super run after a layoff, he gave me a lovely feel and he will be a live contender for the King George.'

Coral introduced Electrocutionist as the 4-1 second-favourite behind Hurricane Run for the King George.

Brian Meehan said of the beaten market leader: 'He has got to have a better gallop. That's what makes the difference to him. The lack of pace is what did us.

'Jamie (Spencer) came back in and said it just didn't suit. But he said the horse felt great.'

'He didn't have a hard race. I'd say there's a pretty good chance we'll go to the Eclipse but I haven't had a chance to talk to the owners and I'd like to do that before we decide anything.'
