Newfangled ran out an impressive winner of the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, routing her field from the front under William Buick.

After the start was delayed owing to a nasty incident involving the Andy Oliver Sendmylovetorose, who thankfully seemed to walk away unharmed, John Gosden's charge immediately took control at the head of affairs.

The 7-4 favourite was in complete control at halfway, the only runner still on the bridle, and despite tiring in the closing stages was still two-and-a-half lengths clear of runner-up Agent Allison (6-1) at the line.

Premier Steps (25-1) was a further short-head away in third but this was a one-horse race from a long way out.

Sky Bet were impressed and make the winner a 10-1 chance for next year's QIPCO 1000 Guineas.

Owner Princess Haya of Jordan said: "She's by New Approach and it's wonderful to have her - it's a huge honour. It's such an honour to be here and to win here - just to be part of it is amazing."

Buick said: "I was a passenger. It wasn't really the plan (to make the running) because there was a strong headwind and I'd made my mind up at the start to sit in behind one or two.

"She jumped first - nothing else jumped in front of me - and when you fight a racehorse there's only one winner. She ran out of my hands and she picked up very well.

"She's a lovely filly and has a lot of quality. I've liked her all along and it's nice to have another winner at Royal Ascot for Princess Haya. When she won at Newmarket we knew she was above average.

"For the moment, six (furlongs) is her trip but she may develop into a miler Gosden added: "It was the plan to settle in behind but she had other ideas.

"We wanted to take her back because there's a strong headwind and you want to sit in behind like a Formula One driver and get in the slipstream, but she's got a lot of natural speed.

"She's been very athletic from the word go and we've always liked her - even when she won at 10-1 we liked her. "We'll just go quietly now - Lowther, Cheveley Park, that sort of route - and then have a little holiday.

"Today you'd say she isn't a miler, but at home you'd say she could do any trip. It's my job to settle her down."

Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam believes runner-up Agent Allison needs a sterner test of stamina.

He said: "She wants seven furlongs, she's a stayer.

"They all came from behind because no one could lay up with the winner.

"She'll win her races and we'll be looking for something over seven furlongs or a mile."

Trainer Tom Dascombe was satisfied by the performance of Premier Steps.

He said: "The winner is obviously very good but ours has run nicely and I thought she'd run better than a 25-1 shot.

"She's got some black type and we need to find her a race to win now."
