Fenton Says Trip Too Far For Speciosa

Speciosa, winner of the Stan James 1000 Guineas at Newmarket last month, finished fourth in yesterday´s Vodafone Oaks.

Jockey Micky Fenton said: 'She gave me a great ride and gave me a real buzz round there. She flew round, but just didn´t get home. She was great to a mile and a mile and a quarter, and she didn´t hang at all, but she just ran out of stamina.'

Alan Munro was pleased with fifth-placed Guilia, and said: 'I´m really delighted with her, because she didn´t act on the course yet she´s finished fifth in the Vodafone Oaks. That´s tremendous.

'She has a lot of quality and she´ll improve - I´m not saying she´ll never act round here because they do learn fast and she´ll be a more balanced horse next time. She stayed, but just had a bit of trouble with the camber and the downhill, but full credit to her, she´s run a good race.'

Christophe Soumillon had a very disappointing ride on Riyalma, who finished last of the 10 runners. The Belgian jockey said: 'I was going easy early on, but she never got going in the straight and I didn´t have much space.'
