Prominent throughout under Niall Moore, Lake Chad (9/1, from 12s before the off) won Tramore's handicap chase over just short of two miles, six furlongs.

In front from the sixth, the durable grey, who had blinkers fitted for the first time this year, put the race to bed before two out and posted an 11-length victory over Cullenwaine

It was a sixth win for Eileen Moore's veteran.

Winning trainer Philip Fenton enthused "He's a course specialist. That's his fourth win here and I think he was beaten by a head another day, so he does act well around here.

"He is 11 and we were talking about retiring him. If he didn't perform today, we might have pulled the plug, but we'll have to go for another one now.

"He'll stay going over fences and when he calls time, we'll call time.

"He puts the brakes on when jumping fences if the ground is too quick, so we wouldn't run him on quick ground, we'd be trying to look after him.

"His owner lives in San Francisco and I'll give her the news now in a while."
