Ffos Las brought forward because of solar eclipse The meeting at Ffos Las on Wednesday August 12 has been brought forward to avoid the potential effects of the solar eclipse. Originally the first race was scheduled for 5.40pm but with it being unclear how much light will be lost, that has been rescheduled by the British Horseracing Authority to 3.35pm. It is hoped an earlier start time will allow the meeting to be concluded before the eclipse, meaning the safety of participants will not be affected by the effect of potential low visibility. The race programme will run as originally scheduled and Wednesday’s other evening meeting will be unaffected as Kempton will be able to use floodlights where necessary. A sole eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly between the earth and the sun, blocking out much of its light. This year’s event is set to be the deepest visible from Britain since 1999.
