Naas manager Eamonn McEvoy has ‘fingers and toes crossed’ that racing can beat the current cold snap and go ahead on Sunday.

The Grade 1 Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle is the seasonal highlight at the County Kildare venue with a list of top class previous winners including Envoi Allen 12 months ago.

However, the track was covered in snow this morning and the forecast for low temperatures is giving McEvoy plenty of cause for concern.

“It looks like it will be very cold over the next few days and maybe as low as -6C on Friday night. If it stays around zero (Celsius) on Saturday then there are patches of ground that may not thaw out in time for Sunday,” said McEvoy.

“I will be keeping my fingers and toes crossed. The temperatures are due to improve into Sunday so hopefully it will happen in time for us.

“The Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle should again be a very good race and the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Chase has the makings of a Graded race in everything but name judged by the entries.”
