‘Fit as a flee’ Browne McMonagle completes Cork double Champion jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle completed a double on his first day back from injury today, completing the feat with a hard-fought success on Atomic City (1/2 — 1/3f) in Cork’s concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden. Browne McMonagle was crowned champion for the first time last November but having spent the following months in Hong Kong, suffered a fractured vertebrae in a fall at Happy Valley last March. Today the 23-year-old resumed race-riding and having earlier scored on Yousaynothingatall, his fitness was tested on Atomic City who scored an all-out head success, from Abbotsford . Trainer O’Brien, whose father Aidan won today’s English 1,000 Guineas with True Love, said “Dylan is fit as a flee and strong as an ox, as always, and it is great to have him back. “We learned a lot about Atomic City today as while he didn’t like making his own running, he was brave in fairness as he had to fight for it. He fought back and Dylan said he was saving plenty, so we think he is a nice horse who hopefully can step on from here. He should stay well.”
