Mick Winters has his fingers crossed for good weather ahead of Rebel Fitz's challenge for the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse on April 20.

The County Cork handler reports the nine-year-old to be in tip-top chase following his latest success at Cork last month, when he accounted for Tarla by 10 lengths.

"A dry week would suit us very well, and the ground should be beautiful according to the forecast. Everything is right for him to go up and be at his peak," said Winters.

"He's come out of the race in Mallow (Cork) very well.

"On the day the ground was heavy but he had the best of it on the inside as it was only the second race. By the fourth race he might not have been able to handle it at all.

"In fairness to Tarla she made it a hot pace and at the second-last I thought it was going to be a fierce battle between them. But she stopped very quickly for whatever reason.

"We were delighted with his run and Barry (Geraghty) was very pleased with him. I'd say he fancies his chances at Fairyhouse, and he said he will stay with the horse for the rest of the year.

"He's getting on so well with the horse and getting a great tune out of him."
