Five Irish trained winners in the UK today Despite no Irish trained horses winning at York for the four days of the Ebor Festival there was plenty of success for the Irish elsewhere in the UK today with five winners being recording by Irish trainers. Gordon Elliott rarely leaves Perth without a winner and today was no different with the Co Meath trainer recording a double on the card. His first winner came in the fourth race on the card, in the shape of Cottage Oak in a Novice Chase over three miles. Paul Carberry rode the 7/2 shot to victory over his three rivals. His double was complete a hour later when his Manger Hangement the 11/8 favourite made all and jumped well on his chasing debut to score by a distance in the Novices Handicap Chase under Jason Maguire, who was completing a treble on the card. In between those two wins Colin McBratney got on the board as his Sir Walter Raleigh took the Novices Handicap Hurdle under Paul Carberry at 11/2. The 4yo son of Galileo was having his seventh start for McBratney today having been previously trained by Michael Stoute. He just got up close home today to score by an neck. Undertheboardwalk followed up his win maiden hurdle win at Roscommon earlier in the month by taking the two mile Novice Hurdle for Tony Martin with Barry Geraghty aboard. The son of Dr Massini was sent off the 10/11 favourite and won comfortably by four lengths. Meanwhile at Newton Abbot, the Gillian Callaghan trained Louisiana Gift took the two mile, one furlong Novices Handicap Hurdle with Davy Condon aboard. Sent off at 5/1, backed from his morning price of 10/1, the 4yo gelding went clear from two out and stayed on well from there to score by eight lengths. Half an hour earlier Ongenstown Lad for Callaghan and Condon finished fourth in the feature race of the day at Newton Abbot a two mile, six furlong handicap hurdle. Donal Murphy
