Jockey Sean Flanagan is looking forward to renewing acquaintances with the Noel Meade-trained Beacon Edge in Sunday’s Grade 1 Ladbrokes Novice Chase at Leopardstown on day two of the Dublin Racing Festival.

Beacon Edge, who will wear cheekpieces for the first time, won the Drinmore Novice Chase last November but Flanagan missed out on the ride due to injury.

He was very impressed with him that day as he told journalist Dave Keena: “I thought he was very, very good in Fairyhouse and Denis (O’Regan) gave him a beautiful ride as well. He’s taken to jumping fences really well.

“He was a very good hurdler. He just didn’t seem to see it out at Cheltenham in the Stayers’ Hurdle last year but he seems to have matured a lot from that as well. He is still a youngster and is coming forward all the time.

“He had a little bit of a blip at Christmas but I’ve always found him to be a lot better horse when he’s fresh, so it might be a blessing in disguise to have had that break since the Drinmore.”
