Tango Flare enhanced a remarkable record in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Race at Fairyhouse when taking the six furlong contest for the third time.

The Pat Foley-trained gelding had landed the race in 2023 and 2024 and was runner-up last year.

He went to post a 4/1 chance tonight and was settled behind the leaders by Luke McAteer.

The Fulbright gelding was brave to go up a gap on rail in the closing stages and just prevailed by a short-head at the line after flashing past the post locked together with Gazelle D’or.

McAteer said afterwards "He’s a legend. Three years ago I lost my claim on him here.

“I’ve ridden him all along, but there was a year or two there where I had horses bumping into him and couldn’t commit to him completely.

“I always like riding a winner for Pat and his team, they’ve always been very good to me. Ray McSharry and Jim Browne look after me well.

“It’s always nice when the old horse goes and gets it done.

“I thought a furlong down I was in trouble, but he stuck at it well.”
