Flight Team Bide Their Time

Flight Leader will make his chasing debut in the next few weeks as long as the ground is suitable.

Like many trainers, Colin Tizzard is waiting for some rain after what has so far been a dry autumn.

And in Flight Leader, the Sherborne-based handler has a tip-top prospect.

The seven-year-old was a smart novice hurdler last term, winning three times and finishing fourth to Wichita Lineman in the Brit Insurance Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on his final start.

'He's about three weeks away from running as soon as the ground is ready. He'll go for a beginners' chase somewhere,' said Tizzard.

'We all know he's a nice horse and we are waiting to go novice chasing with him. It's a matter of time.

'He wants soft in the ground description. There's no notice of that for a fortnight so we'll wait until it comes.

'No doubt if he wins his beginners' race he'll be going round Cheltenham.

'That's what the owners like and that's where he's won, but he needs soft ground so he won't run until we get it.'
