Flood hoping for Wednesday return

Jockey Paddy Flood hopes to return to the saddle on Wednesday following his fall from Rock Diplomat in the Punchestown Grand National Trial, at Punchestown, on Sunday afternoon.

He parted companyfrom the 6-1 favourite nine fences from the finish and was taken to nearby Naas General Hospital for further examination.

Flood was eventually seen at the Swiftcare Clinic in Newbridge and said: “It’s fairly stiff and sore around my upper back and neck but thankfully nothing is broken and it could have been a whole lot worse.

"I’ll see how I am in the morning about getting back for Wednesday, but it might need another day or two so I expect to be definitely back for the weekend.”

He added: “It was one of those falls that you are just happy to get back on your feet from in one piece, but I must have either got a kick to the upper back and neck by another horse or it happened when I hit the ground.”
