Coco’s Legacy (8/1) was a poignant winner of Downpatrick’s concluding Joe Rea Memorial Mares Bumper today, scoring in the famous racing silks of the Eastwood family, and for trainer Paul Flynn and jockey Oran McGill.

Jockey McGill elected to make the running on the once-raced daughter of Order Of St George who in the end held on well to score by 3.25 lengths from Kisuton Enki .

Trainer Flynn reported “John Eastwood, who bred and owned this mare, died a year ago and his dad was Raymie Eastwood. His family are very patient, John was the same and gave me whatever I wanted The family are obviously delighted today.

"I liked her, ran her last Christmas but this is much more suitable mares' only race. She was then meant to run on St Patrick's Day but just had a slight setback.

“Oran has never ridden for me and it was a brilliant ride. I said if no one wanted to make the running, you can make it so just left it up to him and he is obviously a good judge of pace."

Coco’s Legacy carries the colours of late owner John Eastwood, whose father Ramie was the owner of Chinrullah, winner of the 1979 Arkle Chase. A year later, Chinrullah won the Champion Chase at Cheltenham but, along with Gold Cup-winner Tied Cottage was later disqualified as both had eaten contaminated cubes and tested positive for a banned substance.
