Progressive Carrigans Grove (6/1) bagged a third win of the year at the Curragh today, landing the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Apprentice Handicap under jockey Robyn Donaghue-Leahy and for trainer Pat Flynn.

Initially successful when rated 47 last April, the Sinead Maher-owner daughter of Churchill brought form-figures of ‘1221322’ into today’s race, and competed with a mark of 67. Ridden prominently, four-year-old Carrigans Grove edged ahead in the final furlong and scored by a half-length from Amicita.

Jockey Donaghue-Leahy said “to get back riding her was a dream and Pat (Flynn) couldn’t have had her in better form. She’s been more than consistent all year and has been meeting good ones every time.

“They were travelling better than me in front but I knew if I could get past them, they wouldn’t get past me again. She’s tough and she just stays going. She’s a very easy ride but in sprints they have to be sharp and travelling, and the cheekpieces just helped her a little bit.”
