The David Harry Kelly-trained Footstepstoglory (5/1) got up on the line to edge out victory in the Seamus Weldon John Deere Dealer Handicap Hurdle for rider Daniel King.

It looked for all of the race that Colin's Friend was going to keep the Danny Gilligan-ridden GranLahan at bay, and in the last fifty yards, the complexion of the race changed as Footstepstoglory, who tracked the two leaders all the way, got there when it mattered and won by a short head.

Speaking after the race trainer Harry Kelly said

"I do a lot of work for Ray (Grehan, joint-owner with John Donohue) and pre-trained this horse's half-brother (and recent Galway Hurdle winner) Putapoundinthejar.

"We had Putapoundinthejar until he was a three-year-old and always thought a lot of him. There are similarities with this horse and all the family take time and get better with age. I know the family inside out by now and if you take them handy when they are younger, they end up being better.

"I'm delighted for Ray and John as they put the faith in me with this horse as I told them he'd deliver. I told them today was the day so thankfully it worked out, although he left us sweat for it.

"He will go forward now and he is in again here tomorrow, so we'll see."
