'Form horse' Andab lands the Star Appeal After some creditable efforts in defeat in pattern company, Andab (11/10 fav) was successful at Listed level when taking the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Star Appeal Stakes at Dundalk. Held up behind the leaders by Dylan Browne McMonagle, the Saxon Warrior colt made headway between horses in the straight and led entering the final furlong before keeping on well to beat stablemate Which Wolf Wins by a length and a half.  Owned by Al Shaqab Racing and his breeder Trevor C Stewart, the winner was completing doubles for the winning rider as well as trainer Joseph O'Brien. Brown McMonagle said: “He was dropping back in class. His Group 3 second in Deauville was good and the form was good out of it. "The winner was third at the weekend in a Group 1 in France. It was a very solid run and he wasn’t beaten far. “He travelled around there well, the speed was on and there was no hiding place. It was a lovely race to ride in. “I travelled well and, in fairness, when I put him into gear into the straight he quickened up really well and probably waited a little bit when he got to the front. “He’s got plenty of class and he’s a level above those. “I thought I’d be behind the leaders but I was happy to follow and get relaxed. When they went that gallop, it was always going to spread them out for me late. I had plenty of horse to go where I wanted. “It’s all new for him (here at Dundalk). He doesn’t have a whole lot of miles on the clock. “He’s a lovely horse going forward and, hopefully, with a bit of time he’s only going to get better. That was a nice performance and hopefully he can step forward again. “I think he’ll get a mile, he’s a very relaxed horse. Once I got back, he’d go to sleep very handy on you so I don’t think he’ll have any problem stepping up to a mile in time. “He’s got plenty of class as well, he’s a nice fun horse.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
