A double on the day for jockey Paul Townend and trainer Willie Mullins as the Donnelly-owned Fou De Toi (11/10) was an emphatic winner of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Captain Christy Rated Novice Chase.

The five-year-old son of Motivator was subject to huge speculation before his debut in Ireland but failed to deliver at the beginning of his career, but it looks like the jigsaw is coming together with this horse, especially over fences, as he backed up a Kilbeggan success with a 14-length victory on the return to jumps at Gowran Park. He travelled well throughout the contest, and rider Townend was keen to push him into his fences, which resulted in some spectacular leaps, and it was just about keeping him focused on the job over the final two fences as his rivals simply could not put up with him.

Speaking after the race, assistant trainer David Casey said: "He has been competitive on his last couple of runs and he won well today. Paul said he was having a good look at the last, but he jumps well and kept galloping.

"At least he is going the right way now as he came with a reputation which was the height of the tree!"
