Mouse Morris is full of hope that Four Commanders has taken his Cheltenham exertions in his stride ahead of the Ladbrokes Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse tomorrow.

The Gigginstown House Stud-owned six-year-old was beaten less than three lengths when third in the Diamond Jubilee National Hunt Chase over four miles, having disputed matters for much of the way.

Morris said: "He seems to be none the worse since Cheltenham. You never really know until you run them back again, but he seems in good shape at home anyway.

"He ran a good race in Cheltenham, it probably just came a year too soon for him, but he still ran well to be placed.

"It's a very competitive race on Monday and a very tight handicap, so it's going to be a difficult race to win.

"He's only a novice and hasn't got a lot of experience, but I rode a horse to win the race (Billycan, 1977) and he was only a novice, so it can be done.

"This horse stays well, jumps well and handles the ground, so whether it is the right decision or not, I wouldn't swap him."
