Free Wind delivers under Dettori Free Wind struck under a great ride from Frankie Dettori, to win the Group Two Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Middleton Fillies' Stakes at York despite a 320-day layoff. The four-year-old, trained by John and Thady Gosden, had been off the track since winning the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock in July, but was sent off 6-5 favourite to land the extended 10-furlong event. Three furlongs out, having settled well, she was asked for an effort and responded to win effortlessly. As Aristia, the long-time leader carrying a Group One penalty, petered out, Free Wind took the opportunity to hit the front. Despite pressure from outsider Rogue Millennium, who threatened down the outside under the guidance of Jack Mitchell, Free Wind managed to hold her ground. Free Wind edged to the right in the final stages, causing slight disturbance, however following a stewards' inquiry, the result — a half-length victory — stood.
