Freedom looking for Supreme test

Trainer Jessica Harrington reports Steps To Freedom as bang on target for the William Hill Supreme Novices' Hurdle.

The six-year-old is an 8-1 chance with Sky Bet for the curtain-raiser at the Cheltenham Festival as he continues his build-up to March following a victory on his last outing at the track at the end of last year.

Harrington told sportinglife.com: "After he won at Cheltenham in November he had two months out. He is back in now and cantering away so he will do his first bit of work next week.

"He may have a run on the all-weather before Cheltenham, he may not we will wait and see. Other than that he goes straight to the Festival."

Steps To Freedom's defeat of Prospect Wells at HQ was mission accomplished as far as Harrington was concerned as it gave him valuable big-match practice at the course.

She explained: "We were delighted with the way he handled Cheltenham. The ground was probably a bit softer than he likes and I am hoping for nice ground in March.

"He was good, handled the switchbacks and if you consider he was at the end of quite a hard season running on the Flat after a busy summer, that is why he had a break after to freshen him up for the spring.

"He jumps well and the great thing is he has won around Cheltenham so has the experience of the track. I always think that counts for a lot."
